- This is one I thought I had licked: System is a 4000 with 18 Megs RAM and
- a Maxtor 7850 IDE on the internal controller. Recently, the drive
- started locking up the system whenever I tried to write to it, especially if
- I was trying to copy from one partition to another (there are currently 4).
- Usually it appears to work if only one end of the copy is a hard drive partition,
- but I sometimes get "unable to Load Program _________". If I find that, I have
- to recopy whatever program it is. The partition is never invalidated (unless
- it locks during a write), and AmiBack Tools never reports an error. One
- common problem was the archive of IBrowse. It would work fine, provided I
- decompressed it directly into the directory where I was going to run it.
- Otherwise I would get the error message when I tried to load it. Maxtor
- technical support was no help (they blamed this weird computer called Amiga),
- and no jumper settings on the drive make any difference. Any suggestions
- out there in Net Land?
-
- BTW, thanks for the advice about the spin-up problem.
